The Yemeni presidency welcomed appointing Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed as a new special envoy of the United Nations Secretary General to Yemen.

In a press statement issued on Wednesday, the Yemeni presidency underlined its keenness on supporting the efforts of the new envoy to resume the peaceful political process according to the Gulf initiative and the resolution of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) number 2216.

The presidency hailed the stance of the member countries in the UNSC which reflects the international community's backing of the Yemeni people.
