The Yemeni resistance has announced that it liberated the 19th Infantry Brigade base in the southern city of Shabwa, situated some 385 kilometers east of Aden, from militias loyal to the Houthi group and former president Ali Abdullah Saleh.

Dozens of militants were killed and others were taken hostage in clashes that erupted at the base Friday, the resistance said.

An operation is ongoing to purge buildings near the base, the resistance added.

Houthi militias had taken control of the brigade on March 27 after a war on southern governorates.
