Cairo - MENA
So far, 14 apartment buildings have been affected by the blast outside the Italian consulate in downtown Cairo on Saturday, a municipal official said Sunday.
Engineering committees are still examining the damage inflicted on buildings located next to the consulate and the final toll is yet to be announced, head of Boulak Abu El Ela district Ibrahim Abdel Hadi said.
One person was killed and ten were wounded when a car bombing targeted the Italian consulate.
Most of these apartment buildings are located within Maspero Triangle and efforts are underway to relocate them to Sixth of October, he added.
He added that many of the residents refuse to leave their homes.
Cairo Governor Galal Moustafa Saeed said the City Hall will offer necessary compensations to residents of damaged homes.
The consulate was closed at the time of the blast and none of its staffers were wounded
