Fourteen Egyptian fishermen, who have been detained by Libyan authorities since December, were released on Thursday.
The fishermen were detained after entering the Libyan territorial waters without consent from the authorities.
One of the released fishermen, Sabry el Qady, told MENA correspondent here he was arrested along the others on December 19 in Sirte and then were moved to Misrata for further questioning.
Qady said all detainees were well-treated and were allowed to call their relatives back in Egypt.
Meanwhile, Zayed Marei, another fisherman, said the investigations continued for three months before their release.
The Libyan border guards arrested the fishermen, after entering a fighting zone in the Libyan territorial waters, Libyan Coast Guard chief Colonel Reda Issa said.
“They were at a big risk of being targeted, so I ordered border guards to tow the vessel to the shore,” Issa said.
