As many as 1, 437 vessels carrying 82, 528 million tons crossed through the Suez Canal in March; 2.3 percent higher than the same month last year, the authority which runs the waterway said on Saturday.

The Suez Canal Authority said the container ships topped the list with 508 vessels, followed by petroleum tankers with 371 vessels.
