Security forces in Tunisia managed during the period from March 19 to August 27 to arrest 155 people wanted in connection with terrorist cases, the Tunisian Interior Ministry announced today.
In a statement issued today, the Ministry said the arrest of the wanted suspects came in the wake of 12885 security campaign in the different Tunisian governorates as part of the interior ministry's efforts to fight crimes of terrorism in the country.
Most recently Tunisia has been the scene of two acts of terrorism that targeted the tourism sector. On march 18, nineteen people, including 17 foreign tourists, have been killed in a gun attack on the Bardo museum in the Tunisian capital. Those killed included citizens from Japan, Italy, Colombia, Australia, France, Poland and Spain. Two Tunisians, one a police officer, were also killed.
On June 26, at least 37 people have been killed in a gun attack on a beach in front of hotels in the Tunisian resort of Sousse. The dead included British, German and Belgian tourists, as well as Tunisians.
