A Sharqiya misdemeanors court sentenced 17 defendants of the Muslim Brotherhood group to five years over charges of inciting riots and violence.
The defendants were also fined EGP 50,000 each.
The prosecution had accused them of joining a terrorist group, inciting violence, breaking the protest law and possessing fireworks.
They had been arrested after participating in anti-state protests without acquiring the required permit in the town of Kafr Saqr in Sharqiya.
