Five people have drowned after two boats carrying illegal immigrants capsized off the coast of Tabulbah, Tunisia on Saturday.

A major rescue operation is underway as 84 people were taken to the shores of Monastir city, but five immigrants were found dead, a spokesman for the Tunisian Foreign Ministry said.

The boats destroyed due to bad weather, the spokesman said.
