Three Saudi border guards were killed in clashes with armed elements along borders with Yemen, the Saudi Interior Ministry said Monday.

Border guards in Jazan area manged to foil an attempt late on Sunday by armed elements to infiltrate into the kingdom via borers with Yemen, the ministry spokesman said.

A shootout ensued, leaving three Saudi border guards dead.

Saudi-Yemeni borders have become a source of tension over the past few months since Saudi Arabia and its allies launched a military campaign against Houthis and pro-Saleh forces in March.

The confrontations with Houthis and pro-Saleh forces along the Saudi-Yemeni borders have left many Saudi guards dead and wounded.
