Harassment in Egypt

As many as 30 sexual harassment cases were recorded within two days of Eidul Fitr, Egypt's National Council for Women (NCW) on Sunday

Four cases of harassment by touching, and 26 cases of verbal harassment were recorded, the NCW said in a statement.

Legal measures were taken for the cases of harassment by touching, while women victims of verbal harassment refused to take similar action, the council added.

The statement said that NCW Head Mervet el Talawi received a phone call from Cairo security chief Khaled Abdullah to coordinate in addressing cases of harassment.

The NCW hailed efforts made by the police to arrest harassers and achieve security during Eid days.

Lawyers of the ombudsman's office accompanied officers of anti-violence officers at Cairo Security Directorate in various districts in Cairo as part of efforts to spot sexual harassment cases in the Egyptian street in Eid.
