Security agencies seized more than 300 tons of hashish and large amounts of heroin and cocaine on the western borders with Libya before their smuggling into the Egyptian market in the past three years, Director of the Anti-Narcotics General Administration Ahmed el Khouly said.
The administration had curtailed the trade of tramadol, whose price rose from EGP 14 to EGP 200, and tightened control of other abusive medications, Khouly said in response to a MENA question.
Egypt is not a producer of drugs, so the administration, in cooperation with relevant bodies, has been tightening supervision over airports and borders, he added.
