Migrants rescued off Libya's coasts

As many as 332 migrants have been rescued off the Libyan coasts, well-placed Italian security sources.

The staff of Phenix vessel on Friday managed to rescue the migrants, who were bound for Italy, the sources said.

The majority of migrants are Eritreans and Arabs, the sources said.

They will be distributed to several provinces in northern and eastern Italy in line with the plan put forward by the Interior Ministry, they added.

Libya, with a coastline of 1,770 kilometers (more than 1,000 miles), has for years been a stepping stone for those seeking a better life in Europe.
