At least four Egyptian policemen were injured at an explosion that targeted police checkpoint near Helwan University, south of Cairo.
Three officers and one non-commissioned officer were wounded in the bombing attack, the state news agency (MENA) reported.
Explosive experts and police have rushed to the site to investigate the incident.
Earlier, a sound bomb went off at a major railway station in Ramsis Square, downtown Cairo.
