The Khanka Misdemeanor Court decided in a session held Thursday to imprison deputy head of Heliopolis police station Amr Farouk for five years.

Three other officers got a one-year suspended sentence.

They were accused of causing the death of 37 persons and the injury of others while transferring detainees in a police van from Heliopolis police station to Abu Zaabel prison.

The victims died in the van as a result of lack of ventilation inside the vehicle.
