As many as 500 illegal immigrants of different nationalities were arrested by Libyan Coast Guard in the Libyan territorial waters during the past hours.

They were on board five boats, Colonel Reda Issa, an official with the Libyan Coast Guard said in a statement.

The five boats are still guarded by Libyan Coast Guard, he added.
