About eight persons were killed and wounded when an explosive charge went off in southern Baghdad, according to an Iraqi security source on Saturday.

The explosive charge was fixed near a public market, the Iraqi News Agency quoted the source as saying.

The blast left two persons dead and six others injured, it noted.

The wounded were transferred to hospital to receive treatment, the source added.
