Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas urged the European countries on Sunday to play a more significant role to reach a political settlement for the Palestinian crisis.
During a meeting with visiting Lithuanian Foreign Minister Marina Kaljurand and her accompanying delegation, Abbas praised the stance taken by European countries towards Israel's settlement activities in the Palestinian territories.
He urged holding an international conference to bring about peace and establish an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with al Quds as its capital.
The Palestinian leadership is keen on developing relations with Lithuania in all fields, Abbas said.
He added that he discussed with the Lithuanian delegation the latest developments in the Palestinian territories.
Kaljurand expressed her country's support for the two-state solution, stressing that Lithuania is ready to bolster ties with Palestine in all fields, especially education.
