Absentee funeral prayers (Salat Algayb) for late Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdel Aziz were held in a number of mosques across Egypt Friday.
In their weekly sermons, preachers touched upon the biography of the late king and his supportive stance of Egypt and in the service of Islam and the Muslim nation.
In Suez, Al Azhar scholars and the Awqaf office issued a joint statement mourning the death of the Saudi king.
Undersecretary of Awqaf in Gharbiya governorate Sheikh Mahmoud Abu Habsa said Egypt was deeply saddened by the news of the king's death.
Sheikh Mohamed Salama, the undersecretary of Awqaf in Damietta, called the late king "a wise man" praising his help for Egypt.
In Menufiya, governor Ahmed Sherine Fawzi took part in the funeral prayers for the Saudi king.
The Awqaf directorate in Qalyoubiya also mourned the death of the Saudi king. Sheikh Sabri Duwidar, the undersecretary of Awqaf, said the king's stances toward the Arab and Muslim worlds cannot be denied.
His historic support for Egypt in the wake of the June 30 Revolution will always be remembered, Duwidar added.
