Ahmed Abul Gheit

Newly-named Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Abul Gheit said the Arab region is facing tough phase, asserting that he will work hard to fortify the Arab house and protect the Arab interests against any threats or foreign interference.

In statements to the Saudi "Okaz" newspaper, Abul Gheit said his nomination for the secretary general's post is a big responsibility and heavy mission, pledging to work to elevate the Arab League and defend its interests in view of the current tough Arab conditions.

He affirmed that he will work honestly to promote the league and upgrade the performance of its staff in the service of joint Arab action. 

Abul Gheit also promised to exert all possible efforts to unite ranks and increase consensus on joint action among the league's member states in the face of serious circumstances in the Arab nation
