Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Ahmed El Tayyeb, asserted that terrorism and extremism should not be confronted only with security and military measures but rather with intellectual and cultural means with the aim of ending acts of sabotage and violence.
In a speech on the occasion of the Prophet Muhamed Birthday on Tuesday, he called for establishing an entity grouping Muslim scholars to be in parallel with the newly- announced military coalition which groups 34 Israeli countries to fight terror.
He pointed out that the participation of Muslim scholars in the coalition would help face extremism and spread peace and security.
The Grand Imam praised the role of Al Azhar in disseminating the upright teachings of Islam and receiving students from various countries to receive moderate Islamic teachings.
