Al Azhar Grand Imam Ahmed el Tayyeb received Tuesday Egypt's new ambassador to Vatican Hatem Seif el Nasr.
A statement by the foreign ministry said that the grand imam urged the ambassador to spare no efforts in reflecting the correct image of Islam and its principles of tolerance and peace and promoting dialogue and mutual respect.
El Tayyeb also reviewed efforts made toward the renewal of religious discourse and spreading the moderate thought.
He also welcomed the Vatican's imitative for communication for the benefit of humanity and to promote co-existence and understanding of the other.
Seif el Nasr also paid a visit to the Orthodox Cathedral in Abbassia, where he met with Pope Tawadros II of Alexandria and Patriarch of St. Mark Diocese.
The talks dealt with Pope Tawadros's visit to the Vatican in 2013 and his meeting with the Pope.
Pope Tawadros II emphasized the importance of building on the results achieved by the visit to the consolidation of the historical relations between the Coptic Orthodox Church and the Catholic Church.
