Al-Azhar will hold an international conference on combating terrorism and extremism as well as the role of scholars and religious institutions in facing destructive ideas.
The conference, which will be held on December 3 and 4 in Cairo, will be sponsored by Al-Azhar Grand Imam Sheikh Ahmad el-Tayyeb.
The event aims at correcting the ideas distorted by extremists such as the concepts of Islamic state, Caliphate and Jihad.
The conference will also probe the reasons of terrorism.
Al-Azhar scholars as well as representatives from the western and eastern churches will participate in the event.
