Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (AIPU) chief Marzouq Al-Ghanim called on international parliaments, particularly those from Security Council permanent member nations, to work to put a stop to the continuing Israeli aggression on the Palestinian people.
His messages were delivered in cables to the speakers of these parliaments according to an AIPU resolution.
He urged that all support and assistance be offered to the Palestinian people whose only desire are to live peacefully in an independent nation, with a capital of East Jerusalem according to UN resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.
Stemming from the excellent relations of their parliaments and the AIPU, Al-Ghanim expressed these parliaments could carry out an "important and distinguished role to stop this aggression and attain security and stability in the Middle East on the basis of achieving the legitimate rights of the Palestinians." Israeli land and air assault has resulted so far in hundreds of casualties that are regarded war crimes and crimes against humanity, and "this calls for us all to stand side-by-side in putting a stop to this and seeking to punish its perpetrators according to international law," he said.
