Thousands of Egyptian Orthodox Christians celebrated Christmas eve in different churches in the Mediterranean city amid tight security.

Security forces were heavily deployed around churches on Wednesday evening while Copts were holding their Christmas Mass with with hymns and prayers.

Metal detectors were used outside churches to detect any explosives and cars were not allowed to be parked in the precincts of the churches.
