Algeria welcomed "the climate of calm, serenity and responsibility" that marked the first round of the presidential elections in Tunisia, Foreign Ministry spokesman Abdelaziz Benali-Cherif said Monday in a statement to APS.
"These elections marks a crucial step in the process of the democratic transition and constitutes a new promise for radiant and prosperous future for this brotherly country," the same source said.
Mentioning the turnout at this vote, he calls it a "victory for the Tunisian people which has managed to overcome the difficulties and take up the challenges thanks to its wisdom and determination, thus engaging on the track of the consolidation of stability, democracy and Rule of Law."
The turnout at this vote which was held Sunday, reached 64.6% in Tunisia and 29.68% abroad, according to the president of the Higher Independent Instance for the Elections (ISIE), Chafik Sarsar.
