Egypt's Parliament on Sunday elected Ali Abdel Aal as its speaker after he garnered a majority of 401 out of 585 votes.
Abdel Aal, who was born in 1948, is the first parliament speaker after the June 30 revolution and after the dissolution of the Islamist-dominated parliament in 2012 as per a court's ruling deeming it "unconstitutional"
He is a constitutional law professor at Ain Shams University who has masters and Ph.D. degrees in law.
Abdel Aal was also one of 10 figures who wrote the first draft of the 2014 constitution. Moreover, President Abdel Fattah El Sisi chose him for the membership of the committee that drafted the political rights law and the electoral constituencies law.
