Arab League (AL) chief Nabil el Araby strongly condemned the smashing of monuments and antiquities of Nineveh Museum in Mosul at the hands of the terrorist group of Daesh.
El Araby described the attack as a 'barbaric' act and a 'heinous' crime.
"Such brutal attack on the cultural heritage of the Iraqi people is considered one of the most heinous crimes against the heritage of humanity," el Araby said in a statement.
He also deplored kidnapping some people of the Assyrian community.
El Araby voiced support for Director-General of UNESCO Irina Bokova's call to hold an extra-ordinary meeting of the UN Security Council following the mass destruction by jihadists of ancient artifacts in Iraq.
Daesh militants ransacked Mosul's central museum, destroying priceless artifacts that are thousands of years old, in the group's latest rampage which threatens to upend millennia of coexistence in the Middle East.
