The Arab League mission that followed up the Egyptian parliamentary elections submitted its final report to Secretary General Nabil el Araby, the Higher Elections Committee and the Foreign Ministry.

The fifty-page report comprises notes and recommendations on the electoral process that includes a proposal to establish a national authority for elections.

In the report, the mission said the voter turnout was weak compared to previous elections but still the polls mark an important step forward for the country.

It praised the electoral process, its organization and transparency.

Mission chief and Arab League assistant secretary general for the information sector Haifaa Abu Ghazala has congratulated the Egyptian leadership, government and people on completing the parliamentary elections.

The Arab League will issue a compiled report summarizing its experience in following up the three legs of the Egyptian roadmap (the referendum on the constitution and the presidential and parliamentary elections), Abu Ghazala said.

The Arab League electoral follow-up mission grouped 100 observers from 18 Arab countries.
