Arab league secretary general Nabil El-Arabi

The Arab League reiterated its support for the mission of new UN envoy to Libya Martin Kobler (German) for forming a national unity government and completing the mission of former UN envoy Bernardino Leon (Spanish).

Arab League Assistant Secretary General Fadel Jawad said after talks between Kobler and Arab League Secretary General Nabil el Arabi that the UN envoy posted the league chief on efforts to reach a final agreement between the warring parties and form a national unity government.

He pointed out that Kobler expressed desire for getting the league's help for ending the Libyan crisis, pointing out that the Arab league will take part in the meeting of Libya's neighbors in Algeria within days.

Arabi met Kobler on Sunday at the Arab League premises in Cairo.

They also pressed for the need to help the Libyan unity government to provide necessary services to citizens and guarantee the safety and security of the Libyan people.

Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry on Saturday affirmed Egypt's full support to efforts made by Kobler.

During a meeting in Cairo, Shoukry briefed the new UN envoy on Egypt's efforts over the past year to support stability in Libya.

Shoukry reviewed Egypt's support to the Libyan political process and efforts made to help the former envoy Bernardino Leon to carry out his mission and achieve a political agreement, which aims to form a national unity government.

German diplomat Martin Kobler assumed his position as Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) on November 17.
