Arab League

The Arab League (AL) has expressed support for the Lebanese government in its effort to contain the current crisis caused by protests and to protect the country against attempts to cause a political vacuum.

In a statement Friday, AL chief Nabil el Araby said he contacted Lebanon's Prime Minister Tamam Salam to discuss the latest developments there.

Araby stressed the importance of a dialogue initiative, which was launched by Lebanon's parliament speaker Nabih Berri, and expected to be held on September 9.

Hopefully, the dialogue would lead to a minimum level of consensus among the Lebanese political rivals, Araby said.
