Cairo - MENA
An emergency meeting of the permanent delegates of the Arab League will be held on Tuesday to discuss the terrorist attacks in Sirte upon a Libyan request, Egypt's permanent delegate to the Arab League Tarek Adel said.
In exclusive statements to MENA on Sunday, Adel said Egypt approved the holding of this urgent meeting after Libyan Foreign Minister Mohammed al Dairi's phone call with his Egyptian counterpart Sameh Shoukry in which they discussed the situation in Sirte city after Daesh militants have committed acts of genocide against its residents.
He added that the meeting will tackle means of empowering legitimate Libyan government to confront challenges and regain control over the Libyan territories as well as protecting Libyans.
Dozens of Libyan civilians were killed in clashes between Daesh and residents in Sirte as locals challenged the militant group in its last stronghold in the country.
The terrorist group also killed 22 people who were receiving treatment in a medical center in the city.
