Cairo - Arab Today
Arab League Secretary General Nabil el Arabi urged all Libya parties to place high the interests of the Libya people and their right to freedom and peaceful democratic change, calling on them to swiftly sign the blueprint agreement reached under the sponsorship of UN representative Bernandino Leon.
In a statement released on Saturday, Arabi called on Libyan rifles not to squander such historic opportunity as the agreement reached in Morocco constitutes a fundamental base for a peaceful political solution to the Libyan crisis.
Arabi's remarks were made at a high-level meeting on Libya held late Friday in New York on the fringe of the UN General Assembly meetings.
He called on Libya rifles to seize the opportunity and take action towards the immediate halt of fire as well as military operations with the aim of avoiding civil war, ending chaos and violence in the war-hit country.
Arabi called on all regional and international parties concerned to encourage all Libyan parties to get more involved in the political transition in Libya, agree on the formation of a national unity government in order to restore stability, confront terrorist organizations and restore the country's stability and security.
He also pledged that the Arab League would continue all political and moral support to Libya's legitimate government and parliament to help them go along with the political transition process and achieve national reconciliation among partners.
