Sharm al-Sheikh - KUNA
Arab Parliament President Ahmad Al-Jarwan praised His Highness the Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah for his relentless support of Arab causes.
"The exceptional role and wisdom that you (His Highness the Amir) have dealt with Arab causes and your endeavors to unite the Arab fold during his presidency of the previous (Arab) summit is highly appreciated by all Arab people," Al-Jarwan told the opening sessoin of the 26th Arab Summit.
He said the summit was held amidst regional challenges foremost the "cowardly terrorist acts" in a number of Arab countries, coupled with attempts to destabilize the Arab world.
The Arab Parliament, he underlined, was standing behind Saudi Arabia and the Arab countries which rushed to answer the call by the legitimate leadership in Yemen, and launched "Operation Decisive Storm." Al-Jarwan noted that all peaceful means to solve the conflict in Yemen have failed, and the Houthi militias did not abide by the will of the Yemeni people and the relevant UN resolutions, thus continued their aggression against the Yemeni people "benefitting from regional backing." The Arab Parliament, he continued to say, strongly condemned all forms of terrorism and called for adopting all security, ideological, economic and social means to eliminate it.
Al-Jarwan meanwhile asserted the right of the Palestinian people to establish their independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital. He also condemned the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's statement in which he opposed the two-state solution.
Al-Jarwan called for an end of Iran's occupation of three UAE islands and the Islamic Republic's interference in the Arab internal affairs.
Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Iyad Madani, for his part, said OIC pinned high hopes this summit would contribute to strengthening unity among the Arab and Muslim people.
He said OIC was carrying out different activities to support the most vulnerable.
