Head of the Arab parliament Ahmed al-Jarwan

Head of the Arab Parliament (AP) Ahmed al Jarwan praised on Tuesday the formation of the Saudi-led 34-state Islamic military alliance against terrorism.

In a press statement, Jarwan paid tribute to Saudi Arabia for forming this military alliance, which he described as a "popular demand".

The Islamic alliance's policy is based on fighting terrorism at all military, intellectual and media levels, he said.

The Arab Parliament will stand as a strong support of this alliance, he noted.

Saudi Arabia announced on Monday that 34 nations have agreed to form a new Islamic military alliance to fight terrorism.

A joint operations center is to be established in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, Saudi media reported.

Countries from Asia, Africa and the Arab world are involved in the alliance but Saudi Arabia's main regional rival Iran is not.

The alliance comes amid international pressure for Arab states to do more in the fight against Daesh terrorist group.
