Residents of Arish city of North Sinai attended on Saturday a celebration and a rally on the occasion of the inauguration of new Suez Canal project.

A number of NGOs, public and executive leaders attended the celebration.

The participants raised Egyptian flags and Suez Canal photos. They chanted national songs and slogans as well during the event.

Another rally will be staged on Sunday.

Egypt will inaugurate the New Suez Canal on August 6 in the presence of presidents, kings and high-level delegations from various countries.

The new canal will massively increase the capacity of the existing canal and offer an important opportunity to boost the country's economy.
