Egypt's Armed Forces on Monday said fresh security tactics are implemented in Sinai to destroy terror hotbeds and prevent terrorists from moving to areas of central and South Sinai.
In a statement, the Armed Forces said that a fighter patrol of the Third Field Army seized a 4×4 pickup truck loaded with large quantities of weapons, ammunition and explosive materials in a mountain path in central Sinai, while attempting to escape from an armed forces' mobile ambush.
The forces immediately dealt with two people riding in the car. The driver was injured and the truck failed to flee the scene, the statement added.
A kalashnikov, an automatic rifle, 8 magazines, two packets of Kalashnikov ammunition, 10,680 automatic bullets, 14 bags of ammonia nitrate used in the manufacture of explosives, F-1 hand grenade and a night vision goggles, the statement said.
Rolls of money distributed for members of the terrorist organizations in central Sinai were also found inside the car, including their fictitious names. EGP 30,200 publications, and instructions of movement were also found, the statement added.
Fighter patrols are combed the scene in search for two terrorists who escaped in mountain paths, while security measures were tightened in Sinai Peninsula, the statement said.
