Twenty-three (23) smugglers of African different nationalities were arrested Saturday in the extreme south of the country, by the forces of the People's National Army (ANP), which also seized two pistols and ammunition, a statement from the Ministry of National Defence said Sunday.
"As part of border security and the fight against smuggling and organized crime, detachments of the National People's Army under the operational areas of Tamanrasset, In Guezzam, Tinzaouatine and In Amguel (6th military region) and in coordination with units of the National Gendarmerie and the Algerian customs arrested yesterday 6 December 2014, twenty-three (23) smugglers of different African nationalities. "
Besides, the army seized "two (02) pistols, a quantity of ammunition, four (04) vehicles, one (01) motorcycle, a quantity of food amounting to 1.330 kg and estimated at DZD 112.500, as well as six (06) satellite telephones and other objects," the statement added.
"A detachment of the National Gendarmerie under the operational area of El-Oued intercepted, the same day, one (01) smuggler and seized (01) of a vehicle loaded with a quantity of food for smuggling," the same source affirmed.
