Egypt's Mufti Shawki Allam praised the Egyptian army, saying it is the safety valve not only for Egypt but for the whole Arab region.

The Egyptian army is always supporting the nation's will, he said, citing the army's support to the January 25 Revolution and the June 30 Revolution.

Allam's remarks came following his meeting with Military Spokesman Brigadier Mohamed Samir on Wednesday, who handed the mufti the Armed Forces' shield in appreciation of efforts made by Darul Ifta (House of Religious Opinion) in correcting the distorted image of Islam.

The army spokesman, for his part, hailed the role of Darul Ifta in confronting extremist thoughts.
