The main mission of the Armed Forces is to protect Egypt against different threats and challenges, Defense Minister Sedqi Sobhi said on Friday.

The General Command of the Armed Forces is keen on honing skills of Egyptian servicemen and providing them with the latest fighting mechanisms, Sobhi said during a meeting with cadets and teaching staff of the Egyptian naval and air defense academies.

He praised the role played by the Egyptian naval and air defense troops to safeguard Egypt's coasts.

Sobhi urged the attendees to maintain military discipline and make use of the expertise of the former top brass.

He honored a number of cadets and teaching staff at the end of the meeting.
