Secretary General of the General Secretariat of Awqaf Dr. Abdulmohsen Al-Jarallah Al-Kharafi stressed Kuwait's support to establishing an Arab awqaf union. Kuwait would ensure the administrative buildings and the salaries of the union's employees, he said to KUNA, stressing Kuwait's keenness on supporting Arab institutions. Kuwait has decided to support the founding of the union to achieve the true concept of Arab economic integration, Al-Kharafi added. The establishment of the union came in line with Kuwait's role as coordinator of the endowment file in the Islamic world in order to achieve the aspirations of the Arab and Muslim peoples, he added. The Arab awqaf union will be a strategic ally of the General Secretariat of Awqaf in Kuwait along the lines of the strategic partnership between the Secretariat and the Islamic Development Bank in Jeddah, Al-Kharafi stressed. The State of Kuwait represented by the General Secretariat of Awqaf was able to succeed in what has been assigned to Kuwait during the meeting of Ministers of Awqaf in the conference of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, which was held in Jakarta in 1997 and represented in formatting of awqaf file in the Islamic world, he said. Meanwhile, the Egyptian Minister of Awqaf announced on Tuesday in a speech the establishment of the union during the constituent meeting with Arab ministers of Awqaf or their representatives. The union aims to manage and invest the money of the Arab's endowments in its economic and development projects and the establishment of joint Arab companies in various economic sectors in addition to coordination between the bodies of Awqaf in Arab countries to achieve Arab economic integration
