Al Azhar slammed on Friday calls for protest by the so-called Front of Azhar Scholars on August 14.

In a statement, Azhar said such destructive calls aim at destabilizing the country and hindering the process of progress.

This front is not affiliated to Azhar and does not adopt its moderate approach, the statement said.

Such calls target spoiling Egyptians' celebrations of the inauguration of the New Suez Canal, slated for August 6, the statement concluded.
