Secretary General of the Islamic Research Complex Mohie El-Din Afify said on Wednesday that Al-Azhar dispatched preachers nationwide to urge people to ignore the November 28 protests.
"The calls to raise the Holy Quran during the protests have nothing to do with Islam," Afify said quoting an Al-Azhar statement.
Earlier, Al-Azhar urged Egyptians to avoid such proactive calls which aim at sparking sedition in the state.
