Grand Imam of Azhar Dr Ahmed El-Tayyed and Pope Tawadros II of Alexandria, patriarch of the Coptic Orthodox Church, co-inaugurated on Wednesday a conference titled "Azhar in the Face of Terrorism and Extremism".
As many as 600 Muslim scholars representing 120 countries and heads of the eastern Churches are participating in the conference.
Egypt's Mufti Dr Shawqi Allam, president and deputy presidents of Azhar University as well as top officials of Azhar and Awqaf are attending the conference.
Also, Head of the Constitution Drafting Committee Amr Moussa, governors and ambassadors of Arab and Islamic countries as well as representatives of the Vatican attended the inaugural session.
The conference is expected to address a message to the world from the country of Al Azhar on the rejection of the Muslim and Christian men of religion to all forms of terrorism and extremism as well as the Western claims of linking Islam with terrorism.
