Cairo - MENA
Al-Azhar's Grand Imam Ahmed El-Tayeb sent on Tuesday the proposed Zakat and Alms' House's draft law to Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab.
The written draft was handed to the premier by Awqaf Minister Mohamed Gomaa and El-Tayeb's legal advisor Mohamed Abdel Sallam.
The proposed institution is suggested to collect alms and Zakat (the practice of charitable giving by Muslims based on accumulated wealth) from Egyptians.
The collected sums will be directed to funding charitable projects and supporting the poor.
The law was drafted upon a suggestion by the Grand Imam during a meeting with President Abdel Fattah El Sisi.
