Cairo - Arab Today
Iraq's Representative to the Arab League Ambassador Diaa Al-Dabbas said on Thursday that Baghdad urged the Arab League (AL) to hold an extraordinary session at the level of the Arab foreign ministers to discuss the deployment of a Turkish military force in Iraqi territories.
Iraqi Foreign Minister Ibrahim al Jaafari held a phone call with AL Secretary General Nabil el Arabi and called for an extraordinary session, the ambassador said.
Several hundred Turkish soldiers were deployed in northern Iraq near the city of Mosul on December 3, sparking a diplomatic crisis between Ankara and Baghdad.
Arabi is holding talks with Arab foreign ministers to set a specific date for the meeting, he further said.
Meanwhile, Dabbas denounced Turkish interference in Iraqi affairs, asserting that Turkish forces' incursion of Iraqi territories is considered a violation of Iraqi sovereignty.
