Bahrain's Public Prosecutor ordered on Tuesday that Ali Salman, accused of anti-government activities, will be held for seven days pending further investigation in his case.
Salman, who is secretary general of the Al-Wefaq Society, an opposition group, was fully questioned by the prosecutor over his anti-government stances including his call for the overthrow of the government, said Nayef Mahmoud, from the public prosecutor's office, in a press statement.
Mahmoud said the accused was confronted with recordings showing Salman's call for violence and anti-government activity, noting that the accused will be questioned for a number of days.
The public prosecutor had brought in Salman for questioning two days ago to answer to charges he was involved in anti-government activities.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Justice, Awqaf, and Islamic Affairs called on the Al-Wefaq Society not to use religious tools to further its political agenda and to keep its clerics from delving into politics.
