Manama - BNA
Bahrain will tomorrow join the other nations in marking the World Civil Defence Day, which falls on March 1.
The International Civil Defence Organisation (ICDO) declared the annual day by decision of the ICDO General Assembly in 1990 to commemorate the entry into force of the ICDO Constitution as an intergovernmental organisation in 1972.
Marking the event, radio programme Al-Amn hosted Civil Defence Training Division chief Major Mohammed Ali Al-Salees and the head of the head of inspection department First Lieutenant Mohammed Ahmed Al-Abbar.
The Ministry of Interior’s Police Media Directorate coordinated the weekly programme in cooperation with Radio Bahrain to highlight key security and safety issues.
"The annual event is being held this year under the slogan "Civil Defence and Disaster Reduction for Sustained Development", said Major Al-Salees, adding that the General Directorate of Civil Defence dealt with 8585 cases last year, which included traffic assistance, blazes and rescue operations.
First Lieutenant Mohammed Ahmed Al-Abbar stressed the awareness raising campaigns conducted by the General Directorate of Civil Defence to protect society and ensure public safety.
