Muharraq Governor extended on behalf of the Muharraq citizens earnest thanks and appreciation to His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa for giving the green light for the implementation of the 3.5-km Pearl Trail Project in their city.
Under the project, registered in the UNESCO Heritage List, 15 historical buildings will be revamped and rehabilitated. It also includes the restoration and rehabilitation of 12 other historical buildings, the establishment of 19 public open spaces, four car parks for the visitors and residents of the area, renovation of the facades of 750 houses, as well as the establishment of a Visitor Information Centre and a pedestrian bridge.
They said that the project will promote Muharraq as a major cultural and historical city in the world, boost internal and family tourism, attract capitals and investors into the governorate and revitalise the city’s souqs.
The Governor and the citizens valued highly HRH Premier’s directives and keen desire to preserve the Muharraq City’s history and rich heritage.
They also thanked the Ministry of Culture, led by the Minister Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa, for its achievements for Bahrain, in general, and Muharraq, in particular, regarding the protection of the human heritage in the kingdom.
