Awareness workshop

The Undersecretary of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Chairman of the National Committee for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons Ambassador Abdulla Abdullatif Abdulla, opened an awareness workshop on the requirements of the Convention on the Prohibition of the Development, Production, Stockpiling and Use of Chemical Weapons and on Their Destruction.
The workshop is being held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on November 12 and 13, 2014.
Through this workshop, the committee aims to present information on the Convention and the commitments it stipulates, as well as Law No 51 for 2009 that regulates the management process of the relevant chemicals and activities related to them.
The workshop was attended by representatives from the government and private sectors as well as organisations related to the issues in the convention.
A number of papers were presented in the workshop, including efforts towards the implementation of the Convention at the national level, how to identify materials, the safe storage of chemicals and preparations by the civil defense for an emergency.
They were presented by Colonel Sameer Al Zayani, Vice Chairman of the National Committee, Hussain Jaafar Maki of the National Oil and Gas Authority and Najib Al Balochi from the General Directorate of Customs Affairs.
