Egyptian Environment Minister Khaled Fahmy has said that UN Chief Ban Ki-moon is pleased with the role played by Egypt to unify the African stance in order to reach a world agreement to face climate change.
During a meeting with the African ministers on the fringe of the climate summit, currently taking place in Paris, Ban voiced support for two initiatives proposed by Egypt on new and renewable energy and programs to cope with climate change.
Fahmy, for his part, praised the role played by France in support for renewable energy in Africa. Paris has announced an increased contribution to renewable energy projects in the continent.
Fahmy also touched upon financial support worth three billion euros to be offered by Germany, noting the sum represents half the money needed to implement the first phase of renewable energy projects in Africa.
